In spring 2019 we were approached by a builder who had found us on Google. When asked to custom build custom residential railing and a spiral stair that needed to be shipped and installed over 700 miles from Livonia, MI on the east coast our team did not hesitate. “What style and when do you need it?” With these two questions answered we were able to move forward.

In 12 weeks we delivered. We had flown out for measurements at the two-week mark. Our drafters had approvals on drawings in another two weeks. The material was ordered, and fabrication started. The railings and stairs were fabricated by the same team, three craftsmen who care about their work and loved the challenge of building a railing and stair that had to be correct. A do-over is hard when you’re so far from your fabrication facility, and they knew it.

The aluminum stair was one large welded piece, lifted in place with heavy equipment. The rails were long, with the only breaks being the corner posts or wooden porch posts. The builder had put wood blocking into the posts and floor, this made the railing was very sturdy once it was fastened. The aluminum double-top, classic satin black rails were a hit with the new homeowner who appreciated the dark color matching the trim on the windows and lighting on the home.

We love creating railings for projects that present new challenges. Even if the challenge is logistics, it is welcome at Great Lakes Metal Fabrication. Send us a picture or blueprint of what your project involves, and we will dedicate our time and skills to make it happen for you.
